Anjali Asokan Karia
Music Teacher
Background
I have been teaching K-5 music and elementary chorus for 15 years and am at Whittier Elementary School in Oak Park (go wildcats!). After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois, I was a performer in theater productions in Chicago and New York for 6 years. When I was younger, I never dreamed that I could be a classroom teacher, but through a part time job tutoring SAT test prep, I realized that I could and should be a music teacher. I am so incredibly honored to be teaching in Oak Park, where I didn't grow up, but had so many wonderful musical experiences at as a child. I love sharing music with students through creation, collaboration, critique, and celebration!
