General Information
Students are only allowed to bring fresh fruits and vegetables for a snack. Please check out the kindergarten snack list, as there are additional restrictions.
Background Checks: A background check is required for individuals who want to serve as a chaperone on a field trip. It is valid for the time your child is in D97. To sign up for a time for a background check, please visit our online sign-up page. It can be tough to get an appointment, so I wouldn't wait until a field trip is announced to get one. By then it will probably be too late to chaperone that trip. Please bring your driver’s license or State ID to your appointment. Results take about 7-10 business days (sometimes longer), so please plan accordingly. If you have any questions, please email Ellen McKay or call the district office (708-524-3000). Schools are only notified if a person has or has not been approved to serve as a volunteer, full results of a check are only shared with the individual who was fingerprinted.

- Tuesday: Spanish and music
- Wednesday: PE
- Thursday: Spanish and art
- Friday: Spanish and PE
What Can I Do to Help My Child at Home? This is not meant to be a complete list of everything you should do. These are suggestions from which to pick and choose.
Homework: Read 20 minutes a night (why so important?) and play board, card, and dice games.
Kindergarten Passport to Reading consists of a continuum of Phonological Awareness Skills. These skills are all done orally and auditorially. Many kindergarteners will pass on to the Phonics Skills continuum by the end of the year. Of course, Passport to Reading is just a half hour a day, four times a week. Everyone will have phonics instruction at other points in the day.
