We’ve had an incredibly fun and successful year in Service Club! Here are some of the highlights:
- In October, we collected food and money donations for the OPRF Food Pantry. Students could bring in nonperishable food items or money in exchange for dressing up on Halloween. We were able to collect $190 and 230 food items.
- In November, we asked students and staff to bring in gently used coats to be donated to Kids’ Kloset at First United Church. Our awesome school collected over 200 coats!
- In November/December, all of our advisories participated in the Holiday Food and Gift Basket program by buying gifts, wrapping them, and making cards. We helped brighten the holidays for 117 people!
- In February, the Service Club hosted the “Turn Up for Tots” dance. GBMS students danced the night away and raised $3,322.94 for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
- In March, our school participated in the “Can Do Community Challenge” through the OPRF Food Pantry. We were able to donate 494 food items and $928.55. We didn’t win the challenge, but we were happy to be able to contribute!
- In April, students and staff collected money for Misericordia Candy Days. The students were amazing at getting money out of adults. Between Brooks and Julian, we raised over $2,500.
- Throughout the year, Service Club has been collecting travel-size toiletries to make care packages for the West Suburban PADS shelter. Students sorted through all of our community’s generous donations and made enough care packages to fill 10 boxes.
A special thank you goes to our Service Club All-Stars! Without their dedication, compassion, and hard work, none of these projects would have been nearly as successful.
