BRAVO is the extracurricular, award-winning, nationally recognized performing arts program at Brooks Middle School. The BRAVO program serves Brooks Middle School students as well as other schools, functions, and programs affiliated with District 97.
The BRAVO program seeks to provide a wide range of performing arts activities that give students an opportunity to discover their own talents, challenge their imaginations, and work responsibly together in a safe environment of encouragement and artistic instruction.
The BRAVO program includes the mounting of full-scale theatrical productions throughout the entire year, in conjunction with the coordination of other performing-arts after-school activities, designed to allow Brooks students of every age a diverse opportunity for involvement in the arts, through drama, voice, dance, stage craft, improv and other forms of artistic expression.
The BRAVO program incorporates a strong culture of student mentoring and encouragement (e.g., older students are encouraged to mentor younger students; middle school performers teach performing arts workshops for elementary school students; students that have graduated are encouraged to remain involved through further teaching, directing, etc.). BRAVO maintains its strong culture of self-confidence and encouragement by taking this long-view of student learning and involvement.
BRAVO sponsors workshops, master classes, concerts and all-school assemblies throughout the year, bringing in guest artists, composers, and ensembles, to further broaden the scope of arts related experiences for all GBMS students. Our hope is that GBMS students will develop a deep appreciation and continue as lifelong participants and/or patrons of the arts.
BRAVO! was developed to support the Oak Park Elementary School District 97's commitment to arts education, as is reflected in the school district's mission statement. BRAVO is proudly comprised of professonal, experienced staff members along side its very active BRAVO! Parent Advisory Board (BAB).
BRAVO! is able to offer such high quality and diverse programming due to well thought out fundraising efforts throughout the year. Additional funds are receivedfrom awards, grants, gifts, corporate sponsors and District 97.
