Middle Matters News from the Week of November 23, 2015

Short week ahead of us. Enjoy the three days off with your families. This is a wonderful time of year because it exemplifies the IB Learner Profile trait, reflective. This is when we take the time to exercise gratitude. I am grateful for this rich learning experience, talented teachers, brilliant assistant principals and supportive families.

Team Leaders

The Team Structure at Brooks allows for your students to have a common experience throughout the day. Our Team Leaders are an extension of the Administrative Team. They participate in professional learning with me once per week as well as lead and organize their team. Below is the list of Team Leaders and their emails for your use.

Explore Test for 8th graders - December 5th

On Saturday, December 5, 2015, OPRFHS will administer the EXPLORE test to 8th grade students, which consists of English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning sections. Students currently enrolled in Spanish, French, or Italian who intend to continue in the same language at high school will also take a world language placement test for that language. For students currently enrolled in German language classes, students not currently enrolled in a language class, and students who intend to switch to a new language in high school, no World Language placement test is required.

Extra-Curricular Activities

As we think about the student experience, it is important to consider their out-of-class experiences. We want our students to feel connected to Brooks and hope that they can all find their niche. Below are the stats of our student involvement. We will continue to look for ways to engage more students.

  % in 1+ Activities
Asian/Pacific Islander 36.61%
Hispanic 50.79%
Mixed Race 52.43%
Black 55.61%
White 55.76%

Blanket Drive

The winter is approaching and we know that our city can be brutal. Please consider giving a blanket to help keep Chicago's homeless warm this winter. There will be a drop box located in the Brooks main office. Contact Ms. Guerino for questions. Here is the blanket drive flyer.
