Middle Matters from the Week of April 4th

Brooks Families

As we embark on spring, let's think about all the new challenges we want to tackle and all that we have to be grateful for and look forward to. Our sisters and brothers in education just on the other side of Austin went without one day of pay in order to fight for the rights of ALL students. Meanwhile, we are fortunate to be in a well funded district with resources spilling over. It is all of our responsibility to make sure that we are doing all that we can for ALL students with these coveted resources.

I am here to build bridges of empathy. To make sure that we are thinking of and speaking for those whose voices often don't matter. I will continue to challenge us to be reflective...to lean into discomfort. Welcome to spring.

PARCC

We are beginning our PARCC testing Monday! Please be sure to send your students with earbuds. I realize that PARCC is controversial, but as educators, we know the need and the importance of being able to assess how effective our instructional program is at implementing the Common Core. PARCC is a rigorous assessment that makes schools and districts look closely at what an effective classroom looks like. With the goal that each student achieves optimal intellectual growth while developing socially, emotionally, and physically through our system...PARCC is a part of the assessment structure.

Incoming 6th graders!!

We will welcome the class of 2019 this week. The students will do a tour on Tuesday (4/5) and the families will meet and greet us on Wednesday (4/6) from 6pm - 8pm. I have been in constant communication with the families and hope that they will all find this night as helpful as we hope it to be.
