Middle Matters Week of December 19th

Brooks Families

This is the final week before Winter Break! I am looking forward to some much needed rest and relaxation. I am wishing you and yours a wonderful break as well. This is also the season of giving and if you are interested in helping those in need, here is a link of volunteer opportunities in Chicago.

Poetry Slam (12/22)

A huge thanks to our 7th grade ELA team for giving our students the gift of poetry!!! They will share their gift with the entire school this Thursday. See the schedule below.

7th Grade: periods 1 and 2
6th Grade: 7th period
8th Grade: 8th period

A note from our nurse:

Cold and flu season has arrived. Please read the attachment to help prevent the spread of illness in school.

Student Drop-off and pick-up

There is a sign at the entrance of the employee parking lot that says no student drop-off. Thanks to those of you who follow that instruction. Because the lot is so small and now that it is winter, we need your cooperation. We have had multiple incidents of staff cars being hit because of the amount of traffic in the lot. Please use Kenilworth and Washington to pick-up/drop-off your students.

Trimester 1 Honor Roll

Congrats to the students on the Straight A Honor Roll , A Honor Roll and B Honor Roll . While we still love to celebrate grades, I would like to also move toward acknowledging the effective effort of all students. So congrats to the On-A-Roll to Mastery Students.

Perfect Attendance

Research shows that students who attend school regularly learn more and are more successful in school than students who do not. Parents who make regular school attendance their number one priority are helping their children learn to accept responsibility. Students who develop good attendance habits will be more likely to continue them throughout their school career, as well as into their chosen career path. Students who are absent from school, miss out on active learning experiences and class participation.

So I would like to give a big congrats to the 56 students with Perfect Attendance .

Yours in education,
