Brooks Families:
We had such a great week at Brooks. From the field trip to the DuSable Museum, to the Band Concert, to the Best Buddies Talent show, to the volleyball game. Lots of stuff is happening in and around Brooks. We are looking ahead to the next trimester soon and will continue to provide the best experiences possible to your students.

PARCC Exam
We will begin PARCC testing on March 6th and end on March 16th. As is required by law, every student who is eligible to take the PARCC assessment will receive a test ticket or test booklet. However, in accordance with our practice, anyone who elects not to take the assessment will be permitted to read a book after the teacher has read the directions to the class and students have begun the testing process. Since students will not be allowed to go to the school library during the administration of the test, we ask that you please make sure your child brings his/her book to class during the PARCC testing window.
Supporting Oak Park Ed Foundation
Last year, 651 of our Brooks students engaged in one-of-a-kind, hands-on projects in VEX robotics, applied arts, spoken word, and architecture -- all free of charge thanks to the support of the Oak Park Education Foundation. We saw wonderful moments of real-world connections. Architecture Adventure Coordinator Adrienne McMullen showcased buildings around the world with Mr. Leban’s 8th graders, and then the students chose one of interest, picked a feature on it, and used t-squares and triangles to draw it. The Brooks VEX Robotics teams won several awards at the regional Battle of the Bots Tournament, including the Excellence Award, Tournament Finalists Award, Programming Skills Winner, and Robot Skills Winner. And what an exciting week Spoken Word Coordinator Dan "Sully" Sullivan gave to our 7th graders, introducing them to the power of spoken word poetry.
We are so fortunate that OPEF brings these exciting programs into our classrooms for free. As a nonprofit, OPEF receives no government funding and for more than two decades has relied on the generosity of the community to support these programs. As a parent, you can support this organization in several ways:
Grab some friends, and attend OPEF’s biggest fundraiser of the year coming up on March 18th. The William C. Staszak Annual Gala is a hip cocktail party and fundraising auction. Mix and mingle with passionate supporters of Oak Park public education. Enjoy small plates, desserts and an open bar! Click here for more details and to purchase tickets and/or raffle tickets.
Not able to attend the party but still want to give? Donate online here.
