Middle Matters News from the Week of August 31, 2015

See the first week of school advisory schedule and some ways the teachers have prepared their classrooms for the new school year.

Brooks Families,

Are you ready to grab education by the horns! I certainly am! I want to say thanks to the Brooks PTO for organizing such a wonderful Meet and Greet for me at the OPPL. Our new superintendent Dr. Kelley was in attendance as was our State Representative Camille Lilly (picture at right). I feel confident that you and your students will have a wonderful year!

First Week of School Advisory
We plan to front load our expectations to students during the first week. See the topics below.

  • Monday - Lock and Locker Distribution
  • Tuesday - 3 B's/Behavior Expectations
  • Wednesday - Acceptable Use Policy (this must be signed and returned before the student receives their iPad)
  • Thursday - iPad distribution
  • Friday - IB Learner Profile

Photos of Classrooms
Teachers worked very hard last week to make their spaces student friendly. Take a look at some of the Brooks classrooms.

Building Entrance Details

  • 6th grade walkers enter on the Washington Side.
  • 7th & 8th grade walkers enter on the Kenilworth Side
  • All students who ride the bus enter on the Clinton Side

Turf Field
District 97 and the Park District of Oak Park, along with several community partners, are working together to upgrade the outdoor sports fields at Brooks and Julian middle schools. Thanks to this project, our middle school students will have access to all-weather fields that they can use in conjunction with sports programs, as well as during physical education classes and recess. We estimate it will be complete in mid to late October.
