Wednesday, we celebrated World Read Aloud Day! Today we kicked off our One Book, One District: Elementary Edition: The entire elementary district of D97 will be doing One Book, One School TOGETHER! The book kicked off today and will end on March 3rd with a STEAM NIGHT at the Main Public Library (time is TBD). Students brought a stuffy to celebrate during our kick-off assembly, and the youngest student in each family received a copy of the book! Clues for the book will be given in the Hatch Newsroom. Questions to Ms. Stringham- [email protected] Check out our kick-off video Here!

In honor of Black History Month, our school and district will be celebrating the remarkable lives, histories, and contributions of the Black community. Each class will be designing its unique display for our door decorating contest. Students will also participate in research projects, “read-ins,” performances, creative writing, a black author showcase, and a culminating celebration of student-led activities at the end of the month. As you visit for conferences next week, check out the beginning stages of our door decorating. The winning rooms will be announced at the end of the month! We’d love to hear how you and your family are celebrating, too! You can share your Black History Month stories, photos, and videos by tweeting (@OakPark97, using the hashtags #MyD97 and #OakPark97) or emailing [email protected]

Family/Teacher Conferences are next weeks! Please get in touch with your child’s teacher if you have not yet signed up for a conference slot. Students will be dismissed at 11:00 am both Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th. We have wrapped up our winter assessments, and teachers are busy preparing for productive conversations around each child’s learning. Please be sure to check the lost and found while you are here, as all items not claimed will be donated after next week.

As we prepare for the upcoming conferences, we invite you to meet with our specials and support staff. Please click the link for conference scheduling to sign up for a conference spot! This is not mandatory, but our team is available if you have any questions.

To support staff and families ahead of conferences, District 97 has also created a new resource for families entitled Getting Ready for Family-Teacher Conferences: https://www.op97.org/teach-learn/family-teacher-conferences.

Our social-emotional learning this week continued as students learned how to apply the steps to calm down strong feelings. Kindergartners learned how to use these steps to help them wait when necessary. First graders learned how to calm down anger. Second graders learned to manage anxious feelings. Third graders applied their skills to manage disappointment. Our fourth graders learned the importance of not jumping to conclusions, and our fifth graders learned how to handle put-downs. Our students have all learned calm-down songs to help them remember the skills to calm down. Check out the song for your child’s grade level to help cue these skills! K and 1st Grade Song, 2nd and 3rd grade Song, 4th and 5th grade Song

Please be sure to complete this year’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey! This is a unique opportunity to not only provide feedback to the school and district but to support Hatch on a larger scale. School-level reports will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey, and we are already at 8%! It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one child that attends the same school, they may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Thank you for your support!

It opens on January 24th, 2023, and closes on March 31st, 2023.

Kindergarten Parents, We NEED YOU! We would love more help during our lunch hour. We would like to offer our Kindergarteners a separate place to play, but we need more supervision. Can you help? Our lunch hour is from 11:45- 12:50. Here is a link for a Sign-Up Genius. You can contact Ms. Winfield at [email protected] if you have any questions.
