March is Music in Our Schools Month! We are celebrating the importance of music in our school and our lives in many ways throughout March. For the last week, we will be having a MIOSM Spirit Week. Help us celebrate Music in Our Schools Month by dressing up each day! Check out the theme for each day here!

Monday, come dressed from the ’50’s as we celebrate music from 1950.
Tuesday is Hippie Day (music from the ’60s and 70’s),
Wednesday is hip-hop from the ’80s,
Thursday is country/Ranchera Day
Friday is Rock Star/favorite musician day

We need your support! Please complete this year’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey before March 31. This is a unique opportunity to provide feedback to the school and district and support Hatch on a larger scale. We are currently at 21%! It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If parents have more than one child that attends the same school, they may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Thank you for your support!

CPU Lesson 5: This week, our kindergarten - third-grade students learned to use their assertiveness skills to report sexual abuse and to not keep secrets about touching. We are teaching students the Never Keep Secrets Rule about touching and letting them know they can and should seek help if they are being abused, and we stress the importance of continuing to tell people until they get help. Our fourth and fifth-grade students were also taught never to keep secrets about someone breaking the Private Body Parts Rule. Additionally, they were taught that it’s never your fault if someone breaks this rule, that breaking this rule is always wrong, and that people who break it may do things to try to keep it a secret. Next week we will wrap up our Child Protection Units and return to teaching Second Step after spring break. Here are our home links:

D97 Updates/Reminders:

Ramadan begins next week! District 97 wants to ensure that our students who observe Ramadan (March 22-April 20) are supported and comfortable. This form aims to understand how we can best accommodate our students’ needs during this time. We aim to provide a safe and inclusive environment that respects religious observances while ensuring students have access to necessary resources and support. We value your input and appreciate your participation in this process. Your feedback will help us to tailor our approach and develop appropriate accommodations that meet the needs of our students. If your student does not observe Ramadan, or if they do and do not need accommodation, you do not need to complete this form. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Brooks Robotics Pop-Up Summer Camp 2023: Brooks Robotics is excited to announce a pop-up summer camp for rising 5th and 6th graders who want to learn the basics of VEX Robotics but have little or no experience with building or coding robots. You will create a robot to compete in a good old-fashioned game of “Get your trash out of my yard!” VEX style. Under the watchful eye of our very own high school mentors, the aspiring engineers will strategize, build, and code a robot that will clean up their backyard of vexing trash with their teammates. After the robots are built, randomly selected teams of 2 will square off in round-robin matches and play ‘clean the backyard games. Players on both sides will keep throwing, rolling, or sliding pieces of VEX trash back and forth until the timer stops; the team with the least mess wins!! At the end of match play, all teams participate in a final tournament to determine the camp champions!!
