Update Regarding Beye Principal Position for 2021-22 School Year

Dear Beye Community,

I’m writing today to share an update on the principal position at Beye Elementary School. As you know, Principal Jennifer Schemidt will be leaving District 97 at the end of June to pursue a new professional opportunity. We are grateful for her service during this challenging year and wish her nothing but the best.

Since learning of Ms. Schemidt’s departure, the administrative team and I have been reviewing and discussing options for filling this important position. After careful consideration, we have decided to move forward with appointing an interim principal during the 2021-22 school year. Our goal is to fill the position by July 1.

The appointment of an interim principal will help ensure that there is ample time to conduct a formal and comprehensive search to find a permanent replacement for the position. This includes the critical step of engaging our students, families, and staff in the process. Additionally, we believe that an internal candidate who knows the district and the Oak Park community will help provide a smooth transition for the school while helping us meet the needs of our students and families.

We anticipate starting the search process for the permanent principal after the board approves the district’s new superintendent in early 2022. This will allow for the new superintendent to be involved in the process. As part of this search, we will work closely and collaboratively with our various stakeholders to identify a talented leader who will help guide the future success of Beye Elementary.

We will keep the community updated on the status of our search efforts, and appreciate everyone’s continued support of our schools and the children we serve.

Sincerely,

Dr. Patricia Wernet
Interim Superintendent
