Message from December 4, 2020

We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving!  Thank you to all the families that participated in this year’s Turkey Trot.  It was wonderful to see everyone still participating while apart!  Thank you also to our parent volunteers and Mr. Cruz for making this event possible.

Before Thanksgiving break, we welcomed visitors from the Central Office who visited virtual classrooms with some of our teacher leaders in order to help us as we work toward our school improvement goals.  Here are just some of the trends they noticed across classrooms.  Kudos to the amazing teachers who spend hours planning for our students’ educational experience at Hatch. Creating this type of school culture centered in all students’ learning needs is no easy task!

  • Extensive planning and preparation was evident
  • The lesson objectives were evident and the students were aware of the objective
  • There were a variety of resources and strategies used
  • It was wonderful to see the Teaching Tolerance units in action
  • The use of a variety of engagement strategies was impressive
  • Students looked truly happy and were excited about their learning
  • Students were highly engaged and present
  • The Hatch team overall has clearly worked to ensure all student have access to learning
  • The systems that undergird the seamless delivery of instruction are effective
  • Teachers have worked to build a community of learners
  • Teacher enthusiasm is high and translated well into a virtual learning environment
  • The integrity of the teaching and the commitment to high expectations and equity was evident
  • Professional integrity shined through all of the observations

Additional supports for students: As we are entering into the holiday season and the new year, the ongoing stress that we are all feeling with the pandemic and remote learning can feel overwhelming.  Here is a list of resources that you may find useful.  The resources include mental health services, financial/food/basic needs, tutoring, Internet services, and more.  If you find yourself looking for a resource that is not on this list please let me know!  Mrs. Bates ([email protected]

Staying safe: Click here to view a quick video created by our school nurses about important COVID-19 safety precautions, including social distancing, hand washing and wearing face masks.

PBIS Lunch Hangouts: The PBIS Team analyzed the Parent Feedback Survey data and saw that our students are missing social time with their peers.  We expect the cold weather & the current COVID numbers to affect the time kids have to spend with their friends. So, the PBIS team wants to provide a way for kids to hang out with each other safely. If your child is interested they can join the meeting during their grade level day. It will be the same link for each day. The password is tigers.
