District 97 Extends School Day for Elementary Buildings

In June, the Board of Education and Oak Park Teachers' Association (OPTA) reached an agreement on a new teacher contract. One of the notable changes in this contract is an increase in the length of the school day at the elementary school level.

Starting in 2018-19, the school day for our eight elementary buildings will be extended by five minutes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (from 2:55 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and 35 minutes on Wednesday (1:55 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.). This equates to nearly an hour of additional instructional time for our students per week.

The middle school schedule will remain the same.
