District 97 Announces Resignation of Board Vice President

Jeremy Duffy, vice president of the District 97 Board of Education, announced Tuesday that he will be stepping down from his position due to a new professional opportunity. His resignation is effective Aug. 31, 2021.

“On behalf of the board, I want to thank Jeremy for his dedicated service to District 97 and the Oak Park community, particularly as we navigated the many challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Board President Jung Kim said. “Although we are disappointed to be losing a valued member of our team, we are sincerely happy for our friend and colleague, and wish him nothing but the best.”

Duffy was elected to the District 97 Board in April 2021. During his tenure, he provided valuable expertise and insight on a number of important issues, including the district's superintendent search and the reopening plan for the upcoming school year.

"It has been an honor and privilege to serve on the District 97 Board of Education," Duffy said. “This has been a time of great uncertainty, but I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve during this difficult time. Although I cannot continue in my service, I am excited to see where the district goes and will continue to provide my support as a parent and community member."

In accordance with state law and board policy, the District 97 Board will fill the vacancy within 60 calendar days of receiving Duffy’s resignation. Further details about the application and interview process will be shared with the community by Aug. 31.

The appointed individual will serve on the board until the next regularly scheduled election in April 2023. At that time, an individual will be elected to serve the remaining two years of the unexpired term.

The board will select a new vice president during a public board meeting following Duffy’s departure.

District 97 will use a variety of resources (district website, weekly newsletter, social media, etc.) to keep the general public informed and updated throughout the search for a new board member. In the meantime, anyone who has comments or questions about the search process can share them with the board via email at [email protected].
