Meet Mrs. Nelson!
Hi, I'm Mrs. Nelson! I grew up in Oak Park and attended school in District 97 as a student. I went to Lincoln Elementary School, Emerson Junior High (now Brooks Middle School), and Oak Park and River Forest High School. After graduating from OPRF in 2000, I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004 and my master's degree in Reading Education from Concordia University in 2008. This is my 16th year of teaching. My entire teaching career has been at Longfellow, where I taught 4th and 5th grade Title I reading and math for one year, 5th grade for six years, and now, this will be my ninth year of teaching third grade.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, event and party planning, watching Chicago sporting events (especially the White Sox!!), taking walks, shopping, and playing with dogs! I live in downtown Oak Park with my husband, Jeremiah and my son (born last May, 2019) who is also named Jeremiah, but we call him J.
A few of my favorite things......
Food: fried chicken
Dessert: chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter buttercream frosting
School Subject: writing
Restaurant: Maya del Sol
I am looking forward to a spectacular third grade year with all of you!
