Hello!

Hello Brooks Young Artists!

My name is Mrs. Pabellon.  This is my fifth year teaching in District 97, and I am overjoyed to be one of the art teachers at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School.  My journey here started long ago in 2003 when I realized I wanted to pursue a career in Arts Education.  I was living in Boulder, Colorado as a recent graduate from the University of Colorado where I earned degrees in Anthropology and Fine Arts.  I was working at Boulder Montessori School as an assistant teacher and spending much of my free time making sculpture and installation art in my studio or at the local woodshop.  These experiences lead me to discover my love for exploring the arts and the world around us with youth just like yourselves.  In 2008, I made my way back home to Chicago and attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Masters in Teaching program.  Before coming to District 97, I worked as a teaching artist at various art centers, such as Hyde Park Art Center and Elevarte Community Art Center in Pilsen.  I also worked as a K-8th grade art teacher at Andrew Jackson Language Academy and O'keeffe School of Excellence.

Classes that I will be teaching are Art Foundations, 7th grade Fine Arts, 7th grade Applied Arts, and 8th grade Applied Arts.  Please check out my links as they will be updated with your artwork throughout the school year.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Mrs. Pabellon
