Process and Procedures for Selecting Programs and Apps

While there are a number of outstanding online programs and apps you can use to support your lessons and enhance the learning experience for your students, it is important to remember that each of them has different requirements regarding student privacy. In order to ensure that we are in full compliance with state and federal privacy laws (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment, the Illinois School Student Records Act and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), there are steps that must be completed prior to signing up or creating accounts for your students.

Below are links to the programs and apps that are currently being used in our elementary and middle school classrooms.

We have reviewed their privacy agreements and can confirm that they align with our policies and procedures. We are also in the process of obtaining parental permission for the programs that require it.

If you would like to use a program or app that is not on these lists, you must submit a request for approval using the form that can be accessed by clicking here. Once we receive the completed form, we will review the program’s privacy policy to determine if it meets our requirements and outline any steps that must be taken before accounts can be created. These steps may include, but not be limited to, providing parents/guardians with information about the program or app and getting consent for their child to use it. While our goal will be to process these requests as quickly as possible, it is vital that we perform our due diligence before giving our approval.

Please email [email protected] if you have questions or need additional information regarding this process. In the meantime, thank you for your attention to this matter, and for helping us preserve and protect the safety of our students when they are online.
