Below are updates from the Board of Education meeting that was held on April 14, 2015.
- The board received an update on the district's five-year projections, as well as a referendum performance recap and check on policy 4:12 (Finance Goals and Objectives).
- The board approved an exhibit created by Policy Reference Education Subscription Service (PRESS) that corresponds with policy 2:140 (Communications To and From the Board) and an updated version of the document titled “District 97 Board of Education Responsibilities, Procedures and Protocols.”
- The board took action on several personnel-related items that it reviews and votes on annually in accordance with state law. These actions included the approval of the non-reemployment of first, second or third year probationary teachers and the non-reemployment and reemployment of partial assignment teachers. The board also adopted a resolution of honorable dismissal of educational support personnel (teacher assistants).
- The board appointed Sarah Mendez as the principal of Hatch Elementary School.
- The board accepted Mike Michowski's resignation from the position of principal at Brooks Middle School.
- The board awarded Evans Electric a contract for the purchase and installation of a stand-by generator at Julian Middle School.
- The board received bid information related to the ADA exterior ramp work at Hatch Elementary School and upgrades to the walkways and entryways at several other buildings.
- The board reviewed a revised draft of the charge for the Committee for Legislative Action, Intervention and Monitoring (C.L.A.I.M.).
- The board reviewed a report regarding the district's proposed purchase and installation of a Voice Over IP system. This proposed project was run through the district's capital expense (Capex) model.
- The board reviewed the policy review team's calendar for monitoring policies in the future.
- The board reviewed several exhibits that, if approved, will be posted in the Board of Education section of the district's policy manual.
- The board reviewed a donation request from the Holmes PTO that, if accepted, would result in the expansion and enhancement of the school's courtyard space.
- The board received a request from Mann Elementary School for approval of an overnight field trip that would enable a group of students to attend the Odyssey of the Mind World Competition.
- The board received an update regarding the district's summer programming. A discussion about this update is expected at the board meeting on April 28, 2015.
