Below is a message from Dr. Kelley regarding why she chose the second edition of “The Leader in Me: How Schools Around the World Are Inspiring Greatness, One Child at a Time” by Stephen R. Covey as the next selection for her Superintendent’s Book Club.
"On Friday, January 8, I announced that the second edition of 'The Leader in Me' by Stephen R. Covey would be the next selection for my Superintendent’s Book Club. While I am a fan of and firm believer in Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, their inclusion in the book is not the reason I picked it. I chose the text because it offers an outstanding example of how a school community’s efforts to create a shared vision resulted in a set of actions that helped the members of the district discover their leadership potential.
I hope that you will not only read the 'The Leader in Me,' but also participate in the community conversation about it that will be conducted via Twitter (@D97BookClub). Through this conversation, which will begin on Monday, January 25, we will examine a variety of questions, quotes and passages from the book, and explore how they apply to the work we do on a daily basis to help our students learn, grow and achieve."
