Rasheedah Williams
5th Grade Teacher
I am from the northern suburbs but have been living in the Oak Park community for over 20 years now. I have a 23-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter starting Middle School at Brooks this year. I have my degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. This is my 12th year of teaching. I taught in Evanston for 5 years and was a substitute teacher here in the district prior to that. I love my job as an educator and feel fortunate to be able to share my passion for helping kids grow and succeed. I am a retired Veteran of the Army Reserves and served for 23 years. It was an amazing time and phase of my life.
Our journey this year will begin with your child’s education. We will be studying reading, math, language arts, phonics, writing, science and social studies, along with our fine arts specials of physical education, music, Spanish, art, and library. As many of you know, second grade is a pivotal year for children, so we encourage you to continue to be a positive role model in their education. You should ask them questions about their day and offer your help to ensure their growth. Please also reference my weekly newsletter for upcoming information and guidance.
Our focus for your child will be individual growth. We will monitor this growth through a variety of assessments, hands-on learning centers and workshops. The assessments will acknowledge the diversity of learning styles in each child and allow them to flourish in their individual strengths. The workshops will offer differentiation and independent or group activities that reinforce lessons being taught to the whole group. We set high expectations for all of our students that will be achieved through a variety of learning techniques and assessments. We are confident that each child will rise above and beyond these expectations this year. We hope you will join us in promoting these high expectations at home as well.
We look forward to the many adventures in learning that we will share with your child during this school year. Please contact me if you have any questions or if problems arise. I am happy to communicate with you on any matter. The best way to contact me is via email, [email protected];
I look forward to a fantastic year with your child!!
