Thank you to everyone who participated in our Beyond Hunger Can Do Challenge!! Our Hatch team raised over $1200 in addition to the food donations.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We can’t wait to celebrate our dedicated teachers! Thank you to our amazing PTO for finding such creative ways to show our gratitude to the amazing staff at Hatch. Our educators have poured their hearts and souls into providing the best experience for every child at our school. Let’s show them some love! Even a brief note or email to tell them thank you can mean so much!

Thank you to Mr. Perkins, Mr. Righeimer, Ms. Awe, and Mr. Zand for all their hard work bringing back our science fair this week. We were so impressed with the level of inquiry and diligence with which our young scientists approached this endeavor!

SECOND STEP
Kindergarten Lesson 20, 1st-5th Lesson 18
This week our kindergartners continued Second Step instruction and learned that it’s important to notice when students are being left out and that inviting others to play is a caring thing to do, and they practiced inviting someone to play with them. Being included is an important need we all have and learning and practicing how to invite others to join in is a skill that can be taught, learned, and reinforced! Our first- fifth graders learned the importance of thinking through solutions and identifying consequences before picking a solution. This is important because many students, especially those who are more likely to be involved in conflicts and aggression, tend to think of only one solution and act on it without thinking through what might happen. The last two steps of the S-T-E-P process are to E- explore solutions and P- pick the best solution. Doing so helps students take people’s feelings into account and predict the outcomes of their solutions.

The Village is Hosting a Free Firearm Lock Giveaway on Saturday, May 13

Gun violence is a public health crisis. District 97 is committed to partnering with the Village of Oak Park to address this crisis and help keep our community safe.

The Village of Oak Park police and health departments are hosting a free firearm lock giveaway on May 13, 2023, to encourage secure storage of firearms so our community can be safe and healthy. Attendees of the giveaway event can receive a free firearm lock from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, in the courtyard at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. No registration is required.

The health and police departments remind residents that safe firearm storage is a simple action a gun owner can take to reduce gun access among young people, keeping families safe. Safe gun storage is an issue that impacts the entire community and saves lives.
