Julian Principal Search - Survey, Timeline and Virtual Town Hall

District 97 is beginning the search for the individual who will serve as the next principal of Julian Middle School. One of the first steps in this process will be to create a profile of the ideal candidate for the position that is based on feedback from the school’s students, staff and parents/guardians. To help us gather this information, we created a brief survey that the Julian community can use to share their thoughts about the leadership qualities and characteristics they believe the next principal should possess. Please click here for a link to the survey, which will remain open until Monday, June 8.

Virtual Town Hall for Staff and Families - June 3, 7 p.m.

We will host a virtual town hall on Wednesday, June 3, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., where our administrative team will provide an overview of the hiring process and answer questions submitted by staff and families. Please utilize the box at the bottom of the principal profile survey to submit your question no later than June 2. Zoom details will be provided closer to the event.

Virtual Town Hall for Students - June 3, 11 a.m.

Student voice is a critical component in selecting Julian’s next principal. Students are invited to participate in a virtual town hall regarding our principal search on Wednesday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to noon. We encourage them to share their feedback with our administrative team and submit questions for the town hall using this survey

Interview Process and Staff and Parent/Guardian Interview Teams

When the principal profile has been completed, we will use it to perform an initial screening of applicants for the position. Through that screening, we will select the candidates who will be invited to participate in the first round of interviews, which will be conducted by video. The video interviews will be screened by district and building administration, and we will invite top candidates to participate in second-round interviews with school-based teams that are composed of staff members and parents/guardians. We have tentatively scheduled these interviews for Monday, June 15, and Tuesday, June 16.

If you are interested in serving on the staff or parent/guardian interview teams, please complete this form by 12 p.m. on Monday, June 8.

The school-based teams will identify the top five to seven candidates who will be invited to participate in another round of interviews with district administration. When these interviews have been completed, Superintendent Carol Kelley will meet one-on-one with the remaining candidates. She will then utilize all of the information and feedback collected to select the individual who will be presented to the Board of Education for appointment to the position pending the results of a comprehensive background check. Our current goal is to complete this entire process by early- to mid-July to ensure adequate time for a smooth transition process.

Please email me at [email protected] if you have questions about the search process. In the meantime, I want to thank you for your time and attention to this matter and for your assistance in selecting the next leader for Julian Middle School.

Sincerely,

Gina Herrmann,
Senior Director of Human Resources
