Julian Students Perform at Providence St. Mel Choral Workshop

Photo: Julian Middle School choir at Providence St. Mel clinic on Feb. 19On Wednesday, Feb. 19, members of the Julian Middle School choirs had the opportunity to collaborate with the students of Providence St. Mel (Chicago) and Parker Junior High (Flossmoor) in the 20th Annual Providence St. Mel Vocal Workshop. The event was led by internationally-renowned choral composer Rollo Dillworth, and was a celebration of African-American choral music.

In advance of the experience, students prepared three compositions by Dr. Dillworth, and then had the opportunity to rehearse and perform the works with the composer. The event also included a performance and master class with acclaimed singer Rodrick Dixon, who demonstrated an inspiring range of vocal abilities and character development on stage.

The experience followed the guiding principles of the Providence St. Mel tradition that hard work, planning for success, and building something amazing allows students to truly dream and reach their goals.

Thank you to Dr. Rollo A. Dilworth and Mr. Rodrick Dixon for the Solo and Choral Clinic and to Dr. David Barr and the students of Providence St. Mel for hosting such an inspiring event!
