During the six-week Science Fiction unit, students used eight novels from the genre to explore themes connected to the fate of humanity, the creation and/or misuse of modern technology, and the possibility of life on other planets. Three of the books were classics, but new to the school and bought by the PTO.
Students and Mrs. Murray worked with our guest artist Alecks Cruz to conceptualize, design, and create the beautiful works of art filling the blank walls in the stairwell of Brooks.
The Brooks team, which was led by head coaches Tom Kennedy and Sule Kivanc-Ancieta and parent volunteer Victor Ancieta, competed against 19 other schools in 23 events and earned three medals.
Under the direction of new coach, Brian Shinners, the team grew overall, increased the percentage of girls participating, and took part in more competitions than ever before. Plus two of our teams, Muppets and Hydra Resurrection, took home top awards from the VEX Robotics State competition!

The Festival takes place in Atlanta Georgia, and was attended by 4,500 people representing 104 schools from the United States, Canada, South Korea and Australia.
